Bucknell University Summer Scholars Program

HACC is a proud partner of Bucknell University as they offer the Bucknell Community College Scholars Program (BCCSP). The program takes place over six weeks during the summer which consists of living at Bucknell, two transferrable college classes, and an opportunity to apply to Bucknell as a transfer student to receive a full-tuition scholarship. For students interested in learning about how they can participate in the summer 2022 cohort, an information session will be held in fall 2021. The application process will take place in early spring 2022. “Meet” some of our BCCSP scholars and find more information about the program on our website. Student Spotlight

Take a moment to meet the newest student workers for the Student Involvement team.

Jasmine Ramos

Odiyl Alfonso

Jasmine Ramos and Odiyl Alfonso are the newest team members of HACC’s Student Involvement team, that were hired as student assistants at the end of the spring 2021 semester. Jasmine is currently working towards her associate degree in social services. She plans on transferring to Millersville University to pursue her bachelor's degree in social work.

Aside from working with the Student Involvement team, Jasmine also works in the tutoring department at HACC as a moderator. Jasmine shares that when she started attending HACC as a freshman, she didn’t think she would become so involved with the College. She also says that she never thought she would have job opportunities before graduating with a degree, so when she got the call for both of her positions she felt like her dreams finally came true.

Odiyl Alfonso is majoring in Psychology at HACC while taking on a leadership and officer role in the InterVarsity Student Fellowship Club, one of the many student clubs at HACC. Odiyl also works as a Student Involvement Assistant helping with the programming and planning of events for HACC students.

Odiyl will soon graduate, but will further pursue a higher degree at another university. She expresses her gratitude for HACC and the wonderful professors that gave her the wisdom and knowledge a college student could ever receive. Her greatest experience at HACC is, “Making friends, learning more about myself and others within each group, professors and directors I work with. Attending college at HACC has overall been a learning experience.”

HACC Plans to Offer CLEP Testing at Campus Sites This Fall

HACC values the experiences you have gained outside the classroom through Prior Learning Assessment. One way to take advantage of prior learning is through the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP).

The College Board offers standardized CLEP exams in many content areas. Depending on the overall test score, you could earn credits toward your HACC program requirements – saving both time and money!

If you are interested in CLEP testing, you should talk to your advisor to determine how the credits could count toward your program of study. Credits earned by taking the CLEP exam can vary by college and while the College Board keeps a running list, they suggest that you double-check with schools if you plan to transfer after HACC. The CLEP homepage has all the information you need to know, including free sample questions, an explanation of the length and topics of the test, and how to get your free official exam transcript sent to HACC after taking the exam.

HACC will resume offering CLEP tests this fall semester. Please contact our Testing Center at hacctesting@hacc.edu to let them know of your interest.

PASSHE-APAT scholarship

Brianne "Bri" Beiler graduated from HACC in May 2021 and will transfer to Millersville University this fall 2021 to pursue a degree in social work. She always knew she wanted to attend MU, because it is just 15 minutes from her house, and she can walk to campus! While at HACC, Bri was an active member of Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society for students with at least a 3.5 GPA. She applied for the All-USA Academic Team and was selected to represent HACC and receive the PASSHE-APAT scholarship. This scholarship will cover tuition fees at Millersville for her final two years to earn her bachelor's degree. While attending HACC, Bri also took classes at Millersville and stated that "Having one foot in at both schools at the same time was nice and comforting. Not every transfer student has this option, but it worked well for me." Bri said having great advisors at both HACC and MU made for a smooth process, and she is looking forward to having classes in person. We wish Bri all the best and know she will have a great experience at Millersville!
